Water Cleanup - an Essential Response for Plainfield Facilities

3/14/2023 (Permalink)

SERVPRO gives you access to expertly trained water remediation specialists that put vast resources and years of experience to work for you.

SERVPRO Has a Full-Range of Water Cleanup Services

The skilled management of facilities with large populations in Plainfield (such as hospitals, prisons, and schools) requires preparation for possible disasters. SERVPRO is always nearby and available for water cleanup after an emergency. Ensuring the continued operations of facilities like yours keeps our community strong and resilient.

SERVPRO's extensive experience with disastrous events and emergencies qualifies us to assist facilities in Plainfield with our water cleanup services.

For a facility to return to normal operations after a water-related disaster, SERVPRO offers these inter-related services:

  • Physical repairs
  • Extraction
  • Disinfection
  • Moisture control

Repair work might involve only your facility's plumbing, such as installing new pipe sections, joints, or valves. Other times, we have seen situations that required repairs to roofing. Regardless of the need, we can make the repairs for you.

SERVPRO always arrives with the equipment to handle water intrusions of any depth. If standing water exists, we begin with our submersible pumps, which are capable of handling solids and other pollutants. For smaller amounts of water, we use attached extraction wands. When concrete is damp, we use heaters, air movers, and desiccant machines to get the moisture out of the building's structure and the indoor air.

Contaminated water requires disinfectant measures, and SERVPRO handles this, also. Dirty water can come from many sources, including standing, stagnant water that was once clean.

The last step involves measuring the air for excessive humidity. We take such readings several times while we work and record each reading. Readings are taken in various locations, but each location's history is included in our data. These records help us to provide better services when we return later for any follow-up work, especially if dampness is a problem. Damp air can affect many things. Restoring normal humidity levels can resolve any problems.

Call SERVPRO of Hendricks County at (317) 838-0100 for discreet, professional assistance with your next disaster.

Days Old Commercial Water Damage Clean Up by SERVPRO in Plainfield

It is amazing how much water can spread over floors and work areas from a water leak in Plainfield. Whether it is a plumbing break during the night or on a weekend when no one is around, hundreds and sometimes thousands of gallons of water can be disbursed inside a commercial building. With time to soak into everything, removing the water and dry flooring, walls, and contents is a major task.

SERVPRO can be onsite in less than four hours to begin commercial water damage cleanup at your Plainfield business. We quickly assess the situation and deploy high-capacity pumps and water extractors to remove excess water. We also evaluate whether there is permanent damage to walls, flooring, and structures. In many situations, water can cause secondary damage to subfloors and structures if it has been present overnight or over a weekend. Mold colonies can begin forming in less than 24 hours under the right conditions. Wood structures can lose their integrity and require replacement.

The SERVPRO team also provides building repair and reconstruction services. After the commercial space is dry, our building services team can begin controlled demolition if needed and begin restoration and repairs to structures damaged by the water. Plumbing, electrical, flooring, walls, and much more are just a few of the services offered. We can save time and money and return your commercial business to normal operations in a pre-damaged condition.

SERVPRO offers the following services to our commercial business clients:

  • Water cleanup and removal
  • Water damage repairs
  • Water damage restoration

SERVPROO IICRC certified technicians have the training and experience for all phases of commercial damage restoration.

Trust SERVPRO for Commercial Fire Damage Cleanup in Plainfield

A fire has compromised the structural integrity of my commercial property. Who can help me restore it so that I do not put all the daily operations that keep it alive on hold?

The infiltration of smoke into even the most hidden parts of the building is one reason you need professionals to take charge of commercial fire damage restoration of your Plainfield property. The other one is the need to be up and running in the shortest time possible to avoid revenue loss.

Commercial property owners and managers should not have much to worry about since SERVPRO has a team of professional technicians who can handle any situation efficiently. We can roughly trace our process to these steps:

  • Assessing the damage the fire has caused to your commercial property.
  • Boarding up windows and entrances to avoid external weather interference.
  • Cleaning out the traces of smoke and soot from all affected areas.
  • Deodorizing the property using different products and equipment.

SERVPRO has the technology and know-how to salvage and clean your furnishings and property effectively. Our restoration specialists can remove soot and smoke from all the affected structures and materials. We can use liquid crème cleaners to clean hard surfaces. These products also polish, brighten and deodorize the affected surfaces. They have mild abrasives, which make them outstanding at eradicating rust stains, stubborn spots, grease, black marks, and soap scum. The cleaners are thick liquids that cling to vertical surfaces. Our SERVPRO technicians use them only on surfaces that mild abrasives cannot harm, like metal, porcelain, stainless steel, fiberglass, Formica, plastic rubber, pans, and pots.

Fire damage causes unpleasant odors. Our SERVPRO team can use electro-gen thermal fogging equipment to apply water-based thermal fog deodorizers to your property to eliminate the odors. The agent comes out in a fine-misted fog that can penetrate small crevices and cracks and drive out the smells.

Restoring your commercial property in a short time requires the services of expert restorers. Contact SERVPRO of Hendricks County at (317) 838-0100 for effective repairs that make the fire, and smoke damage seem “Like it never even happened.”

When Water Strikes Your Hotel, We Are Here For You!

9/2/2021 (Permalink)

What to Do if Your Hotel Floods

Flooding is a common occurrence in many parts of the country, and we are certainly no strangers to it here in the Indianapolis area. Whether it happens as a flash flood or as a slow buildup from constant rain, you need to be prepared for this type of event. As a hotel owner, there are some specific things to be aware of:

  • Your guests. The people who are staying in your property are at the top of the list of concerns when it comes to flooding. Make sure everyone is aware of impending danger, and touch base with each guest to make sure they know how to stay safe. Getting emergency contacts for your guests is a good idea, too, in case something unexpected happens and you need the assistance of a close friend or family member.
  • Medical issues. If there are guests staying with you who have medical issues or are either very young or very elderly, it might be a wise idea to get these people to a facility that can watch over them closely, such as a hospital or community safe haven.
  • Vigilance. Even if you think the flood risk is low in your area, stay vigilant. Understand the potential exposure of your property, using reports from such organizations such as the NOAA Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service, which provides quarterly updates and maps that show areas that are at high risk during certain times of the year. Historic flood maps are another useful resource that will help you understand the potential risk where you are. Be informed as to how high water can possibly rise, and evacuate lower levels to make sure no one gets hurt.
  • Insurance. Take note of the flood insurance you have on your property before a flooding disaster strikes. Have your attorney go over it for you to make sure that your coverage is sufficient for any disaster that might bring water damage and storm damage. Copies of this coverage and all other key business information should be kept in a safe location that won’t be damaged by flood waters.
  • Proactive. Be proactive, and consider getting a sump pump to help minimize potential damages from flooding. Make sure all maintenance projects are current for the entire building, and especially the gutters, roofing, and doors and windows.
  • Emergency Kits. These may come in handy if people get stuck in the building for a few days. Water, food, first aid items, toiletries, batteries, flashlights, and other emergency items will need to be available in the event that a flood forces people to stay put.
  • Evacuation Plan. Design a flood evacuation route for your employees and guests and make sure it is posted where everyone can access it for a quick retreat.
  • Weather Eye. Keep an eye on the weather by accessing local weather broadcasts, and paying attention to evacuation orders. If the local authorities are insisting that you evacuate, it would be a good idea to follow their instructions.

Here at SERVPRO of Hendricks County, we care about you and your business. We’re here in case an emergency happens, and we can help with clean-up projects both large and small. Call us today for help with damages from flooding or fire, and don’t forget that we’re mold remediation specialists!

How Secondary Damage Can Make Commercial Flooding Worse

6/13/2021 (Permalink)

If your business floods, your first concern may be the rising water itself. While this is certainly a problem, it’s also important to avoid secondary damage. The increased levels of humidity in the room can cause black mold to spread. Here are a few ways you can avoid this problem after a flood in Avon, IN:

  • Call a restoration company immediately
  • Thoroughly clean all damaged items
  • Keep an eye out for signs of mold for a few weeks after restoration

It’s essential for business owners to follow each of these steps to stop the damage. Furthermore, understanding how secondary damage occurs can help you avoid it.

Plenty of Humidity

Even a few inches of water can significantly increase the humidity levels in a room. This high humidity means that there is a lot of water in the air. That moisture in the air then sticks to the walls, surfaces, and furniture in the area.

Moisture Leads to Mold

When the water in the air lands on particular surfaces, it can begin to grow black mold. Unfortunately, that means that the mold grows in places where you may not expect it.

How does moisture make mold? Mold spores are all around us. However, without the necessary water levels, they don’t grow into anything dangerous. Once humidity rises in your business, those previously harmless mold spores become a problem.

The Clock is Ticking

The very second water spills into your business, you’re on a timer to prevent mold and other problems. In most cases, you have only 24 to 48 hours until the mold is visible. This is one of the reasons it is important to call SERVPRO of Hendricks County immediately.

Black mold and other secondary damage can make flooding in your business worse than it already would have been. Be sure to contact SERVPRO of Hendricks County as soon as you see signs of flooding and avoid this problem altogether.

Air Purification After Fire Damage - Contact SERVPRO 24/7

6/13/2021 (Permalink)

Smoke smells and smoke damage are present in the air after a fire, which will require removal purifying. A restoration company will employ a variety of techniques to clean and sanitize the air so that the property can be usable once again. Fire damage restoration cannot be complete without a complete purification of the air.

A fire in a business can extensively damage drywall or paint, which will need to be restored last once all other damage is handled. Once the smoke smell is completely removed, fire cleanup and be completed with aesthetic touches. Complete fire damage restoration will leave the property completely usable. Commercial fire damage is reversed to the point where business can resume as usual, "Like it never even happened."

The stability provided by a restoration company after a fire in a home or a fire in a business is incomparable to that of an individual handling the situation by him- or herself. Fire cleanup is a complicated task that requires specialized equipment and multiple technicians depending on the extent of the fire damage. It is almost impossible to reverse commercial fire damage without help. Whether it is just to board up the property or to remove all the water from firefighting, a company takes on a lot of the burden, providing stability to a shaken individual.

Call us at SERVPRO of Hendricks County 317-838-0100.

Don't react to problems in your Hendricks County business...Nip them in the bud!

12/18/2020 (Permalink)

Owning and running a building means that you have a lot on your plate. You probably want to avoid reacting to problems, and instead, nip them in the bud.

High traffic areas like bathrooms and kitchens in a place of business are highly frequented, and this means that your drains and toilets are doing a lot of work, so you should do what you can to keep them flowing and avoid flooding. Have maintenance check on them regularly and consider conducting a camera-scope inspection every so often. Som great ways to avoid clogged pipes include:

  • Buy thin toilet paper.
  • Post signage about what can go in the toilet.
  • Provide plenty of labeled waste receptacles.

Pipes

First, you should look into what type of pipes you have. If they are older, they might be polybutylene, copper, or galvanized iron. These materials are prone to damage and don't usually last long. Please consider replacing if this is the case. Regardless of material, it is important to check them for corrosion or leaks as often as possible, because even the smallest drip can accumulate. Winters can also be hard on pipes, so be sure to keep your building warm enough to avoid freezing and broken pipes.

Fire Sprinklers

Sometimes your sprinklers can be triggered to go off without a fire- a warm light nearby or burnt food in the microwave can do the trick. This can cause water damage, especially if not taken care of right away. You should have a water damage restoration company picked out so you can move forward right away with water repair should something like this happen. Especially if the incident was above a carpet, this may eventually turn into a mold problem.
There's a lot to keep track of in a large building. If you know what to add to a regular maintenance routine and some simple preventative measures, your life could be made a lot simpler.

If disaster strikes your business, give us a call! We are faster to any disaster and are here to help get you back to "Like it never even happened."

Home Safety Tips For Parents with Children going Back To School

Home security and safety are especially important if children will be alone at home for any length of time. Walking home alone, entering an empty house, and staying safe at home can be a challenge. But with guidance, rules, and helpful products, parents can help children stay safe at home.

  • Teach kids to lock the door and not open it for anyone: Children should know how to properly lock all doors. Teach them that they should never open the front door while they’re home alone, even for deliveries or mail.
  • Show kids how to use the alarm system: Make sure children know how to properly use the alarm system, both arming and disarming it. You should also show them how to hit the panic button and what to do if there’s an emergency.
  • Plan a safe route to school: Work with your child to plan a direct route to school. Avoid as many street crossings as possible as well as open fields, vacant lots, and desolate areas.
  • Help children memorize important numbers: Teach kids their home address, their home number, your cell phone number, and the number of a neighbor who can help. You should also teach them how to use 911 in an emergency.
  • Teach children about stranger danger: Make sure kids know not to talk to strangers on their way home from school, even if they seem friendly or helpful.
  • Make an emergency plan for fire: Work on an emergency plan together and determine how your child will exit in case there’s a fire.
  • Keep communication open: Ask your child to text or call when they get home each day. Encourage them to call you if there’s any problem at all so you can help.
  • Have a plan for lost keys: Even responsible children can lose keys. Choose a destination for a spare key or leave one with a close neighbor or family member.
  • Establish rules for safety at home: Determine whether children will be allowed to use the stove or oven when home alone, rules for visitors or leaving the house, even screen time. Set kids up for a safe afternoon at home by establishing your expectations.

-Inspect property, especially walkways and parking lots, for proper drainage to alleviate flood hazard potential.

-Inspect all handrails, stairwells and entryways to address and correct potential slippery or hazardous areas. Install mats or non-slip surfaces and post caution signs where water could be present.

Important Steps to take for Commercial Fire Damage Restoration

6 Critical Steps During Commercial Fire Damage Restoration

Fire is amongst the worst disasters that can affect the running of a business and can halt operations for a long period due to damage to the business office and various office equipment. Therefore, it is imperative that the business owner initiates a fire damage restoration process as soon as possible to reverse the immense fire damage to the business. This will significantly assist in getting the business back in operation as fast as possible. It is important to use a fire restoration company as they provide other beneficial services other than just fire restoration. Here are six important steps a business owner should adhere to during a business’s fire damage restoration process.

1. Have an emergency contact

It is imperative that a business owner should have the emergency contacts of a fire restoration company as they offer immediate emergency services. This means that they will avail their services as soon as they are contacted and offer immediate relief services that will save the business thousands of dollars. In addition to putting out the fire together with the fire department, the fire restoration personnel will prevent the spreading of the fire and damage to the rest of the business property.

2. Damage Assessment

The next step conducted by the restoration company in this process is assessing the extent of fire damage to the business property. This step entails assessing how far the soot, smoke, and fire have traveled and the extent of damage to the furniture and walls of the property. The damage assessment step is important as it provides an accurate and realistic damage report that assists in making an action plan, accurate cost of restoration and the exact time frame to conduct the restoration.

3. Sealing and Tarping Services

As the restoration of the damaged process begins, it is imperative that the fire damage restoration company prevent further damage to the business property by offering sealing and tarping services. This aims to avoid increasing the restoration costs for the business owner as well as completing the restoration process within the set time frame. Luckily, this process can be executed concurrently with other restoration processes such as water damage restoration process. This ensures that any identified water leak or water pipe damage is fixed within the shortest time possible to avoid spreading of water all over the business property and causing more damage.

4. Damage Clean Up

When all sealing and tarping services are complete, the fire damage restoration company proceeds to next stage, which entails cleaning and clearing up the fire damaged area. This process involves cleaning away the soot, dust, and smoke from the surfaces of the business property. In most cases, a building’s walls and other surfaces appear charred, dark and stained. Therefore, cleaning of the surfaces plays a big role in ensuring the business property regains its normal look. Other damage restoration processes such as repairing water leaks and damaged water pipes are done and completed at this stage. Finally, removing and disposing all damaged items from the property marks the end of the clean-up phase. These include office furniture and other equipment that are beyond repair due to fire damage or water contamination. It is important that the business owner replaces such items with new ones to avoid future restoration and repair expenses.

5. Damage Repair and Property Restoration

This step entails restoring damaged furniture and other office equipment with new ones as well as repairing damaged office property such as installing new wall cabinets and repainting the office walls. This step ensures the business premises return to its former glory. However, other than conducting restoration activities, the business owner is presented with the opportunity to introduce and carry out new renovations to the business property. This will leave the business property looking even better than before, with new furniture, new office design, and a complete property facelift.

6. Consultation

After the completion of the fire damage restoration process, the fire damage restoration company can offer free advice, video tutorials or even short seminars on various ways to prevent fires in the future, better office designs and fire detection devices that can help detect smoke and fire within the business premises.
