Tip of the day: make sure your water shuts off after your toilet fills

Our SERVPRO technicians were called to this beautiful old house in Putnam County for a water loss that occurred due to the toilet bowl overflowing in the upstairs bathroom.  The homeowner had gone out of town and indicated the water ran for about 2 weeks.  Not only did this residence suffer extensive water damage but mold growth was also found and remediated.

This homeowner’s Indianapolis home had a leak in the supply line to the shower and went undetected for weeks.  After discovering the damage, the loss was confined to two bedrooms, bathrooms, and the living room. Our SERVPRO technicians positioned 17 Air Movers and 1 Dehumidifier to dry this property.

The cause of loss to this Greencastle, IN home was a toilet bowl overflow from the upstairs bathroom. The water ran for about 2 weeks according to the homeowner. Affected the upstairs, main, level and basement. The hardwood floors are warped and plaster walls have damage.

This mold damage was caused by windows in the basement that have been leaking for an extended amount of time.  There is heavy mold growth on the structure and contents in this home.  We removed and disposed of drywall, wet insulation, baseboards, carpet and pad and belongings, and contents.
